2007 North American Forest Biology Workshop, Future Forests: Emerging Physiological and Genetic Technologies
The 2007 North American Forest Biology Workshop, Future Forests: Emerging Physiological and Genetic Technologies, along with traditional scientific sessions on forest physiology and forest management, will be held in Bloomington, Indiana from May 20-23, 2007. The North American Forest Biology Workshop is sponsored by the Tree Physiology and Forest Genetics working groups of the Society of American Foresters. It is the premiere event for exchange of technical information and ideas amongst scientists working in many areas of basic forest biology, ecology, silviculture, genetics and conservation throughout North America. The meeting will be hosted by Purdue University Department of Forestry and Natural Resources and the Hardwood Tree Improvement and Regeneration Center at Purdue University. It includes 1-1/2 days of presentation on the latest issues. A one-day field tour will focus on hardwood forest management and industry. Conference registration will begin in January 2007. A social mixer will be held on the evening of the first day. Oral and poster presentations will be featured on the second and final days, with a day-long field trip in between. The theme for the first day will be: “Future Forests: Emerging Physiological and Genetic Technologies”. This session will include papers related to tree biotechnology (both genetic engineering and somatic embryogenesis), nanotechnology, genomics, and biofuels. Topics for presentations on the final (half) day will include forest physiology and forest management. Field tours will focus on hardwood forest management, genetics, and industrial facilities. Selected peer-reviewed manuscripts based on the oral presentations will be published in a special issue of Tree Physiology. Therefore, speakers will be selected based on appropriateness of their topic for inclusion in this journal. Because of publication deadlines, manuscripts will need to be submitted at the time of meeting, and formatted in accordance with this journal’s guide for contributors (http://heronpublishing.com/tpguide.html). Abstracts (poster and oral presentations) and questions can be sent to the address listed below. An abstract submission form (page two of this document) must be received by October 1, 2006. This should include: title, author(s), affiliation(s), address(es), and text. There is a one-page limit (one-inch margins), using 12-point Times New Roman font.
