University of Florida Announces Urban Forest Hurricane Recovery Program
Funded by the Florida Division of Forestry and the USDA Forest Service, this program offers resources for community members and landowners who are seeking to establish and manage a wind resistant urban forest. A comprehensive toolkit is available online and provides information on topics such as how to clean up after a hurricane, what species to consider in an urban environment, and how to effectively trim and prune trees so that they resist damage from storms. The toolkit also contains 30 PowerPoint presentations that offer information on related topics, such as developing an urban forest management plan for hurricane prone communities. All of the educational materials are available in both English and Spanish.
