Ever a man on the move, SREF Forest Health Invasive Species and Outreach and Education Program Coordinator Dr. Dave Coyle spent May 2018 traveling to workshops in Dublin, GA and Broken Bow, OK to spread his knowledge of forest health and invasive species management.
Several SREF staff members attended the ANREP 2018 Biennial Conference April 29 - May 3 in Biloxi, Mississippi. The conference was jam-packed with exciting talks!
SREF staff, including Dr. Bill Hubbard, Southern Regional Extension Forester, and Dr. David Coyle, Coordinator of the Forest Health and Invasive Species Outreach and Education Program (FHIS), will be presenting at the 11th Biennial ANREP Conference April 29 - May 3, 2018 in Biloxi, Mississippi.
The 2017 SREF Annual Report provides a snapshot of our office's activities for that calendar year. Our faculty, staff, and students had an enormously productive and satisfying year of meeting the needs of the Southern Land-grant Universities, the US Forest Service, and our regional partners by creating a wide variety of products and offering many services. We think forestry and natural resources professionals from the region and beyond will find many things of use in the pages of this report.
At the beginning of 2018, North Carolina State University Extension Forestry welcomed two specialists to its team, Drs. Frederik Laleicke, a Wood Products Specialist, and Dr. Rajan Parajuli, a Specialist in Forest Economics.
On November 28-December 2, 2017, SREF Extension Associates Leslie Boby and Holly Campbell attended the 7th Association for Fire Ecology International Fire Congress in Orlando, FL. While the event was internationally-focused, the southern location this year offered participants an opportunity to highlight the southern United States. Forestry Extension personnel from across the country, including Holly Campbell, who presented on novel ways to engage landowners and communities in wildfire/prescribed fire education.
