eLearn Urban Forestry:  The USFS and SREF have Launched a Brand New Professional Development Program in Urban Forestry

eLearn Urban Forestry is an online, interactive professional development program in all things Urban Forestry designed specifically for beginning urban foresters, traditionally trained foresters working in urban landscapes and allied professionals such as landscape architects, public works employees and planners.

BLACKSBURG, Va., Aug. 24, 2010 – Thomas R. Fox of Christiansburg, Va., professor of forestry in Virginia Tech’s College of Natural Resources and Environment, was awarded a Fulbright Scholarship for research and teaching at the Pontificia Universidad Catolica de Chile in Santiago, Chile.

The Wood Education and Resource Center (WERC) is accepting applications for cost-share demonstration projects that assist the WERC in meeting its mission of facilitating interaction and information exchange with the forest products industry that will enhance opportunities for sustained forest products production in the eastern hardwood forest region.

BLACKSBURG, Va., May 23, 2006 Beginning this fall, Virginia Techwill offer a one-of-a-kind Ph.D. program in geospatial and environmental analysis. "This interdisciplinary doctoral program, based in the College of Natural Resources, is designed to meet one of the great challenges of the twenty-first century the sustainable management and conservation of natural resources," explained geography department head Larry Grossman.

Through the cooperative efforts of the USDA Forest Service, University of Minnesota, and TreeLink, this database is continuously updated and made available on the web. The USDA Forest Service, Southern Region, will soon advertise a GS-12/13 Rural Forestry Program Manager position located in the Cooperative Forestry Unit, State & Private Forestry, the Regional Office, Region 8, Atlanta, GA. The Forester serves as Rural Forest Program Manager for the Rural Forestry Assistance Program, providing leadership, guidance, assistance, and administrative/technical direction throughout the thirteen-state Forest Service , Region 8 area.

WASHINGTON, May 23, 2006-Agriculture Secretary Mike Johanns today awarded more than $790,000 in federal cost-share grants to 12 organizations for use with urban and community forestry projects nationwide.

The Wood Education and Resource Center (WERC) is accepting applications for cost-share demonstration projects that assist the WERC in meeting its mission of facilitating interaction and information exchange with the forest products industry that will enhance opportunities for sustained forest products production in the eastern hardwood forest region. The funding available this fiscal year is approximately $1 million. Completed applications are due to the WERC on or before February 1, 2006.
