2nd call for Abstracts - Caribbean Fire Ecology and Management Symposium, April 17-19, San Juan, PR

You are cordially invited to submit abstracts and register for theCaribbean Fire Ecology and Management Symposium (CFEMS) that will takeplace April 17-19, 2007 in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

This symposium will bring together research and management personnel that
deal with wildland fire issues in the Caribbean, with additional
perspectives provided from researchers in the US and Latin America.  The
focus will be on the presentation of current fire ecological research and
on research needs from a management perspective.  The goal will be to share
current research and management knowledge related to fire ecology and to
increase public awareness of wildland fire issues in the Caribbean.

The symposium will be a three day event with two days of talks, a workshop
to discuss priorities in Caribbean fire ecology research and management,
and a field trip to the Guánica National Biosphere reserve to observe and
discuss fire mitigation plans at the reserve.  It will be hosted by the
USDA Forest Service International Institute of Tropical Forestry in San
Juan Puerto Rico and the Puerto Rico Conservation Foundation.  A special
issue of a peer reviewed journal will be prepared to present the research
results of the symposium. Translation will be provided for Spanish and
English speaking participants during the course of the symposium.
