North Carolina Extension Forestry Welcomes Specialists in Economics & Wood Products

At the beginning of 2018, North Carolina State University Extension Forestry welcomed two specialists to its team, Drs. Frederik Laleicke, a Wood Products Specialist, and Dr. Rajan Parajuli, a Specialist in Forest Economics.

We are pleased to announce the introduction of two new specialists to the North Carolina State University Extension Forestry team, Dr. Frederik Laleicke and Dr. Rajan Parajuli,

Frederik LaleickeDr. Frederik Laleicke will serve as a Wood Products Extension Specialist. His strong background in wood physics, composite science, and sustainability has allowed Frederik to work in different areas such as cross laminated timber, wood recycling, and non-destructive testing and evaluation. Some of the areas in which Dr. Laleicke will develop programs include recycling of wood based materials, new building techniques, and design for deconstruction. 

Originally from Germany, Frederik studied at the University of Hamburg before continuing his education at Oregon State University. He received his PhD in 2015 and remained at OSU where he conducted various research projects in conjunction with the wood industry.

Dr. Rajan P.Dr. Rajan Parajul will serve as Assistant Professor and Extension Specialist in Forest Economics. Dr. Parajuli specializes in forest product market modeling, forest product trade and policy analysis, economic impact analysis, carbon and bioenergy markets, and forest finance. He will be developing an extension program focusing on areas of timber marketing and forest economics, and in particular, the modeling of forest economic impact, financial management of forest assets, non-industrial private forestry, and forest certification.

Before joining the NCSU Extension Forestry team, Dr. Parajuli was a forest economist at Texas A&M Forest Service where he worked in timber price reporting, timberland taxation, and economic impact assessment of the forest sector. Dr. Parajuli received his PhD in forest economics and policy, an M.S. in forest economics and management, and another M.S. in finance from Louisiana State University.
