2016 Southern Regional Extension Forestry Annual Report Highlights Achievement through Partnership & Collaboration

The 2016 Southern Regional Extension Forestry Annual Report offers a snapshot of the collaborative projects that the SREF office worked on with the 13 Southern Land-grant Universities and other key partners during the year. The breadth and scope of projects, programming areas, and project impact numbers demonstrate the impressive reach and efficacy of the southeastern natural resource and forestry Extension community.

2016 was a great year for partnership and collaboration in the southeastern forestry and natural resource Extension community. The 2016 SREF Annual Report describes a thriving network of cooperation between SREF, the 13 Southern Land-grant Universities, and other forestry and natural resource organizations, the core of which remains the 100+ forestry and natural resource Extension professionals working in the region. SREF accomplished any achievements and impacts detailed in the report through the hard work of these professionals and with the ultimate goal improving their reach and effectiveness. 

Among our collaborative accomplishments in 2016:

  • SREF provided leadership, content, or both to several initiatives that produced educational materials useful to Extension natural resource programs and professionals across the region. Some of these materials include 38 fact sheets, 9 journal articles, 28 educational videos, and 7 eLearning modules. 
  • SREF's unique educational webinar platform, forestrywebinars.net, brought forestry and natural resource programming to 20,000+ participants by airing 97 new webinars and offering 
  •  SREF either led or were asked to participate in close to 19 million dollars in competitive grants. In addition, SREF staff worked successfully to bring in over $500,000 in contracts and agreements.
  • SREF staff spent 229 days traveling across 22 states interfacing directly with partners and bringing ideas, enthusiasm and material to 98 key meetings and conferences in 56 US cities.
