A new book titled, "The Longleaf Pine Ecosystem: Ecology,Silviculture, and Restoration," edited by Shibu Jose, Eric J. Jokela, andDeborah L. Miller of the University of Florida has just been published bySpringer Science of New York. This book is a state-of-the-art synthesis ofwhat we currently know about longleaf pine ecosystems and represents along-awaited update of the earlier classic longleaf pine book by Wahlenberg(1946).
The great deal of research performed and management experience accumulated during the past 60 years has allowed the chapter authors in this new book to greatly improve the quality and quantity of information about longleaf pine ecosytems that will now be available to scientists, managers, policymakers and the public. The content of this book (along with video lectures earlier recorded by each senior author) is already being used as a model for teaching university courses in restoration ecology and conservation of natural resources.
