The oldest program of its type in Virginia, the Fall Forestry & Wildlife Field Tours give participants the opportunity to observe forestry and wildlife management practices active in their community.

The Fall Forestry and Wildlife Field Tours, hosted by Virginia Tech's College of Natural Resources, seek to inform participants about practical forest and wildlife management techniques currently being used in their areas. The tours also share information on current cost-share programs, and serve as a great opportunity for networking with other landowners and natural resource professionals.
The Washington County tour will begin at the Southwest Virginia 4-H Educational Center,where participants will observe a recent salvage cut conducted after a windstorm; visit Meadowview Research Farms, home to the American Chestnut Foundation's research farm and over 34,000 chestnut trees; embark on a Private Land Tour of a recently tornado-struck family-owned forest and learn about the difficulties in harvesting weather-damaged timber; and conclude at MapleMan Operations, where maple logs are broken down and processed into boards to be used as Gibson guitar faces.

The tour includes lunch and refreshments, and special options are available upon request for those with particular dietary needs.

A limited number of scholarships are available for K-12 teachers. Please call Jennifer Gagnon at (540) 231-6391 for details. Awarded first-come, first-served.
Cost: $30 per person. Registration fees include transportation, lunch, and refreshments.
