Assistant Professor/Wildlife Extension Specialist
Job Description: The School of Forestry and Wildlife Sciences at Auburn University and the Alabama Cooperative Extension System are seeking applications for a full time, 12-month tenure track Extension Specialist position at the Assistant Professor rank. The successful candidate will develop an extension and outreach program (75%) to educate landowners, natural resource professionals, and other stakeholders in topic areas of applied wildlife management, wildlife damage management, habitat and population management, and/or habitat restoration. The Extension Specialist will be a part of the Forestry, Wildlife, and Natural Resources Extension Team and is expected to work independently and in collaboration with other faculty in the School of Forestry and Wildlife Sciences along with several state, federal, and NGO partners. The successful applicant will synthesize, apply, and disseminate research-based information and expertise to address relevant and timely information needs in one or more of the above areas, develop and deliver educational programs through a variety of media including publications, social media, websites, distance learning, and demonstrations, and secure extramural funding to support Extension programming. The Extension Specialist is expected to provide programmatic leadership, training, and technical support to regional and county extension agents and other Alabama Cooperative Extension System personnel. The candidate will also teach and advise (25%) undergraduate and/or graduate level courses in wildlife ecology and management and engage in some limited applied research relevant to their area of extension programming. This position will be on the Auburn University campus in the School of Forestry and Wildlife Sciences. Minimum Qualifications: A PhD in Wildlife Sciences or related field at the time employment begins. The successful candidate must demonstrate a compelling interest and capability to deliver science-based information to a variety of audiences. Experience with Cooperative Extension and educational outreach programs preferred. Ability and willingness to teach undergraduate and graduate courses is required. The candidate selected for this position must be able to meet eligibility requirements to work in the United States by the date of appointment is scheduled to begin and must be able to communicate effectively in English.
Salary: Commensurate with experience.
