1890 Agroforestry Consortium (1890 AFCO) Launched

A team of 1890 Land Grant professionals formed the 1890 Agroforestry Consortium at the 1st World Congress of Agroforestry in Orlando June 27-July 2, 2004.

 

Joshua Idassi, CSREES 1890 Fellow and Assistant Extension Professor at Tennessee State University, has been named as the Chairman of the Steering Committee.  Other members of the Steering Committee include:  Nathanial Brown, Fort Valley State University, Fulbert Namwamba, Southern University, Gwen Boyd, Alcorn State University, and George Brown, Alabama A&M University.  The 1890 Agroforestry Consortium was developed to build a team of 1890 Land Grant professionals to provide leadership in agroforestry research, education, and extension throughout the 1890 Land Grant System.  The Steering Committee will meet in Atlanta in September 2004 to develop the Consortium mission and objectives, as well as a five year strategic plan as related to local and international research, education and extension needs in agroforestry.  The expected board of advisors will comprise representatives from CSREES, USDA Forest Service, USDA Agroforestry Center, the 1890 Association of Extension Administrators, and the 1890 Association of Research Directors.  For more information contact Joshua Idassi at jidassi@csrees.usda.gov, (202) 401 5934.
