With today’s perfect storm of forest threats—invasive species, tree disease, drought, and wildfire—keeping woods healthy requires family forest owners take a more active role managing their land than ever before.

The American Forest Foundation (AFF) is dedicated to help woodland owners protect and enjoy their land.  AFF works on-the-ground with families, teachers, and elected officials to promote stewardship and protect our nation’s forest heritage.

A team of AFF staff and volunteers drew on their experiences as woodland owners and created an easy-to-use website to assist family forest owners to map, protect, and enjoy their woods.

While there are many agencies and organizations that provide useful information about forestry, AFF’s new website is designed for woodland owners to help them learn about their land and identify their interests and goals—whether they include improving wildlife habitat, recreational opportunities, birding, income, or other interests.

The exclusive mapping tool was designed to help users map woodlands and record features such as streams, trails, plants and wildlife, and special sites. Through the tool, they can identify goals for their property and once selected, the tool suggests recommended action steps and offers customized information to help reach these goals. The site also connects woodland owners to local professionals and organizations that can offer guidance and assistance as needed.

The Forest Journal was developed to offer a place where woodland owners can record the special moments spent in their woods.  Journal entries help keep track of changes in the woods, trees plantings, species of wildlife seen and other favorite moments with family and friends.  It can be a personal journal, or shared.

MyLandPlan.org is a fun and easy-to-use online tool that can help woodland owners enjoy and protect the land they love.
