MSU Website helps prepare for and recover from hurricanes.MSU's Forest and Wildlife Research Center has created the web site www.windwoodutilization.org to help prepare for and recover from hurricanes and other large-scale wind storms that damage forests. The site is a hub for information specifically related to the preparation for, response to, recovery from major wind events and the utilization of downed and damaged timber and woody debris that can be generated. Funding for the website’s creation was provided by the federal Department of Energy through MSU’s Sustainable Energy Research Center. Since its debut in September 2009, the website has been accessed by about 3,000 individuals. Most recently the site was used by landowners to recover from the spring tornados that resulted in loss of life and destruction of homes, buildings, and forests in Mississippi.  MSU's Forest and Wildlife Research Center has created the web site www.windwoodutilization.org to help prepare for and recover from hurricanes and other large-scale wind storms that damage forests.

The Federal Woody Biomass Utilization Group, with some great editing by Dr. John Plodinec, has recently posted an “Action Plan for Damaged Timber and Woody Debris Management”. This document is intended to help stakeholders in the disaster response community and the forest enterprise better meet the challenges of damaged timber and woody debris. The action plan also identifies information and research needs that, if filled, would enhance the resilience of the forest community. The report can be found at http://windwoodutilization.org/ .
