Around the Region--Real Forestry for Real Estate: A Unique Extension Program

Virginia Cooperative Extension develops a unique program in forestry for real estate professionals!

The Virginia Forest Landowner Education Program received an Education Grant from the American Tree Farm System to develop Real Forestry for Real Estate (RFRE), a program which puts sustainable forest management information in the hands of new forest landowners.  RFRE accomplishes this through a partnership with real estate professionals – providing them with forestry-themed continuing education classes and New Landowner Packets.  The Packets contain a wealth of sustainable forest management information, and can be distributed to land-buying clients.  To date, 14 classes have been offered to 454 real estate professionals, and over 1500 New Landowner Packets have been distributed.  For more information, please contact Jennifer Gagnon, jgagnon@vt.edu, 540/231-6391.
