New study designed to document the extent, cause and potential implications of accelerated changes in forest industry ownership in the southern region from 2002-2004.
The Forest Restoration Information Service is being developed by the UNEP World Conservation Monitoring Centre (WCMC) with support from the UK Forestry Commission, DFID and the School of H.M. King William III and H.M. Queen Emma of the Netherlands Foundation in collaboration with a range of NGOs.
Forests this year in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia and Puerto Rico all sustained damage from either hurricanes Charley, Frances, Ivan or Jeanne.

The book is titled "Thinking Like a Manager: Reflections on Wildlife Management." The format of the book -- a brief, fictional novel that follows six characters having a discussion about management concepts -- makes it ideal as a centerpiece for small group discussions. Though examples are wildlife-related, the management considerations illustrated (e.g., human values, limits and capacity, scale, decision making, and integration) are generic, and relevant in a fisheries or forestry context, according to the authors.
Pulling Together: Cooperation to Combat Invasive Plants - An exciting program of presentations and workshops will address invasive plant identification, risk assessment,ecosystem impacts, and educational opportunities – and, of course, the latest in management strategies. The program willhave morning lectures from nationally recognized speakers followed by concurrent sessions. The afternoon will offerworkshops and field trips. Volunteer poster presentations are invited and will be on display throughout the program withauthors present to discuss their work during the poster session and reception.The Southeast Exotic Pest Plant Council is a regional 501(c)3 organization dedicated to controlling invasiveplants and restoring natural ecosystems.
