Ecosystem Markets Conference Announced

Ecosystem Markets Conference Announced

The conference, co-hosted by the American Forest Foundation (AFF) and the World Resources Institute (WRI), will be held in Raleigh-Durham, North Carolina on June 23rd and 24th, 2010.

Building upon successful conferences in 2008 and 2009, which attracted over 375 attendees from conservation non-profits, federal and state natural resources agencies, academia, the private investment sector, forestry, and private tree farms, the event will focus on the challenges and opportunities of increasing the use of market-based approaches for conservation on private lands.

AFF & WRI have assembled some of the world’s top thought leaders on ecosystem markets to help drive markets forward, and determine how best to capitalize on the ecological and economic benefits of these innovative tools.  We are excited to announce that Dr. James Salzman, Professor of Law and Professor of Environmental Policy, Duke University, will provide the opening address (http://www.law.duke.edu/fac/salzman/) and Denise Knight, Water Sustainability Manager, The Coca-Cola Company, will deliver the key note (http://www.water-footprint-usa.com/speakers.asp#Knight).  Stay tuned for the finalized agenda, which will be available by May 3rd.

Sessions will feature recognized experts and leading innovators in the fields of biodiversity, carbon, water, and other emerging markets.  Speakers will discuss the current state of the ecosystem marketplace, key success factors and challenges, and how to develop, replicate and scale projects to create successful place-based ecosystem markets as well as techniques to encourage landowner participation.  Other key issues to be addressed include credit stacking and bundling, voluntary markets, and regional perspectives and opportunities.

Registration levels are well ahead of last year’s pace, so we encourage you to book your overnight accommodations while space is still available.
