eLearn Urban Forestry: The USFS and SREF have Launched a Brand New Professional Development Program in Urban Forestry
eLearn Urban Forestry is an online, interactive professional development program in all things Urban Forestry designed specifically for beginning urban foresters, traditionally trained foresters working in urban landscapes and allied professionals such as landscape architects, public works employees and planners.
Do you have more traditionally trained foresters, allied professionals or partners looking for information and education in how to work in urban areas with the broader urban forestry community? We have the solution for you! The Office of the Southern Regional Extension Forester (www.sref.info), the USFS Region 8--Urban and Community Forestry Program along with the Southern Group of State Foresters have partnered to design and develop a state-of-the-art online, distance-learning program geared specifically toward beginning urban foresters and those allied professionals working in and around urban and urbanizing landscapes including service foresters, natural resource planners, landscape architects, city officials and public works employees. Powered by Articulate, the program is inexpensive and accessible with key features including flash-based interactivity, video and professional audio. Topic areas taught include tree growth and development, urban soils, site and tree selection, planting, arboriculture, assessing and managing tree risk, tree disorder, diagnosis and management, trees and construction, policy, and urban forest management.
