First Call for Abstracts - 6th Natural Resource Extension Professionals Conference - 2008

-- Leopolds Legacy: Extensions Response to a Changing World --"The land ethic at work today"Conference Date and Location:May 20 – 23, 2008Monona Terrace Community and Convention CenterMadison, WisconsinOur conference will be in Aldo Leopold’s backyard. He was a wildlife biologist, forester, land use prophet, and conservation/environmental visionary. His career, writings and legacy continue to reflect the core values of ANREP. We work in a new era of natural resource outreach opportunities! Extension must respond to a wave of increased environmental-related public interest and activism. Sparked by increased media attention, recognition by elected leaders of environmental threats, and a greater public appreciation of the scientific community on natural resource issues, we can expect an emergence of an increased thirst for knowledge and a greater need for help in making informed decisions by the public in the arenas that Extension natural resource professionals work. Expanding global climate change awareness, energy issues, threats to water resources, loss of open space in communities and more will bring increased demands and teachable moments to Extension natural resource professionals. Our goal for this conference is to ensure participants that they will have up-to-date information, education and tools to meet this opportunity. This land ethic theme calls for a variety of formats for presentations.

The Conference Planning Committee is requesting abstracts for:

ORAL – A formal presentation by one or more authors (30 minutes).

POSTER – A formal visual presentation of current extension programs with a scheduled informal discussion period (2-hour poster sessions, 60 minutes of which require authors to be stationed at their posters).

WORKSHOP – A hands-on sharing of extension natural resources techniques and methods. Examples include: successful educational material design, ways existing materials are used with Extension clientele, program evaluation techniques, proven methods of extension program development, etc. (60 minutes).

ROUNDTABLE – A moderated session designed to stimulate in-depth discussion to explore multiple viewpoints. Formal presentations to frame the topic should be limited to no more than 15 minutes, leaving the remainder of the time for small group discussions and interactions. Presenters should provide targeted questions to pose to others at the table in order to stimulate discussions. This is an ideal format for networking and in-depth discussions on a particular topic (60 minutes).

Submit an abstract for any of the formats described above. If you are submitting an ORAL abstract, but would be willing to accept POSTER, please indicate as described below.
