First World Congress on Agroforestry Well Attended
Close to 500 participants from over 80 countries attended the recent World Congress on Agroforestry in Orlando, Florida.
Close to 500 participants from over 80 countries attended the recent World Congress on Agroforestry in Orlando, Florida. Presentations by Norman Borlaug (Nobel Peace Prize winner), Hosney El-Lakany (Assistant Director General, FAO) and other internationally reknowned experts provided the audience with an international perspective while numerous speakers from the United States provided information on how this landuse system that incorporates agriculture and forestry principles is gaining interest here. In addition, the Orlando Declaration was drafted and states among other things that Agroforestry is a dynamic, ecologically-based, natural resources management system that, through integration of trees on farms, ranches, and in other landscapes, diversifies and increases production and promotes social, economic, and environmental benefits for land users.
