Forest*A*Syst CD-ROM Available for Forest Owners

The Forest*A*Syst CD-ROM is an interactive tool designed to provide guidance to forest landowners in the Southeastern United States at a critical juncture in their land tenureship. Users of this electronic medium will be able to learn new terminology, develop an understanding of forest, wildlife, and recreation management objectives, assess current management activities, print reference materials, and find contact information for their state forestry and wildlife agencies, state Extension office, and forestry association.

forest a syst cd coverThis program should to be treated as a “front-end” piece – an introduction to the idea that identifying primary and secondary management objectives and working with a natural resource professional is a wise decision. This product is a modified version of the original concept developed by Rick Hamilton, Extension Forester at North Carolina State University and ultimately modeled after the successful Farm*A*Syst/Home*A*Syst programs of the Extension Service nationwide. Our educational goal is to get the landowner to realize the importance of working with natural resource professionals to develop a management plan for their forest land.

We hope you find this CD-ROM to be a useful tool both at the office and in the field. There is no copyright associated with this product so you are free to make copies for distribution. Please let us know what you think about the content and format of this tool. We want your ideas for improvements as we develop a new national Forest*A*Syst module to be served online by the National Learning Center for Private Forest and Range Landowners at www.forestandrange.org. Contact Kris Irwin if you are interested in obtaining bulk quantities as he may be able to provide multiple copies at a reasonable price from the original distributor of this CD-ROM. Our contact information is: Kris Irwin (706-542-7412, kirwin@uga.edu) and Bill Hubbard (706-542-7813, whubbard@uga.edu)
