HFRA Specialist Named for USDA Forest Service Southern Region

Jim Ehlers, current Director for Cooperative Forestry for the Southern Region, will assume this new post on February 9. The position will be housed within the Forest Health Protection Unit in the Regional Office.

HFRA Specialist Named for USDA Forest Service Southern Region ATLANTA – A seasoned Forest Service professional has been selected to fill the recently created position of Healthy Forest Restoration Act Specialist for the Southern Region. Jim Ehlers, current Director for Cooperative Forestry for the Southern Region, will assume his new post on February 9. The position will be housed within the Forest Health Protection Unit in the Regional “I look forward to this unique opportunity and am anxious to work on important regional and national issues relating to the Healthy Forest Restoration Act,” said Ehlers. “Jim has demonstrated that he is more than capable of meeting the many challenges of this position, said Deputy Regional Forester Ken Arney." Our forests and cooperators will benefit from Jim’s expertise and dedication. Ehlers has been the Director for Cooperative Forestry since 1997. Prior to that, he held a variety of National Program Leadership positions for Cooperative Forestry at the Washington Office. In addition, Ehlers has worked on forests in Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Michigan, and Wisconsin. Ehlers received a Master’s Degree in National Resource Strategy from the College of Armed Forces and an undergraduate degree in Forestry from Southern Illinois University An outreach notice will be posted shortly to fill the Cooperative Forestry Director position. In the meantime, an Acting Director or two will be named to serve in the position.
