New Natural Resource Extension Specialist at Oklahoma State University
Rachael Houchin was hired as a Natural Resources Assistant Extension Specialist at Oklahoma State University in September, 2005.
Rachael was born in Kentucky but raised in Tennessee since the age of 4. She attended the University of Tennessee from 1997 to 2002, majoring in Wildlife and Fisheries Science with a Forestry Minor. During her undergraduate studies, she worked for Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) Natural Heritage Program, out of Norris, TN, first as an intern and later as a contractor. She moved to Lubbock, Texas in August, 2002 to work on her Master’s degree through Texas Tech University. Rachael studied Rio Grande wild turkey habitat, home range, fertility and mortality at 4 study sites. She was the primary researcher at the study site located in Clarendon, Texas. Rachael graduated from Texas Tech in August 2005 with a Master’s thesis titled “Coyote Predation on the Rio Grade Wild Turkey in the Texas Panhandle and Southwestern Kansas”. Rachael enjoys most outdoor activities, especially white-water rafting, kayaking, camping, hiking, hunting, birding and botanizing! Rachael is an avid believer that education through extension will encourage and develop methods to sustain our natural resources.
