New NCSU Extension Materials Available on Trees & Local Regulations

A portal to many of North Carolina's municipal and county regulations that govern trees on public or private property has been recently created by the NCSU Extension Forestry Unit.

The website, ordinance database, and publications are provided as basic references for those interested in the regulation of trees. It is intended to aid various groups in compliance with regulations and to assist communities in the development of regulations by providing access to:

• Regulations governing trees affected by forest management, land clearing, grading, or tree maintenance.

• Zoning and landscaping ordinances containing tree protection provisions and environmental provisions that impact trees.

• Information on state and federal regulations that impact trees.

The website can be found at:  http://www.ces.ncsu.edu/forestry/ordinance/

Also, our most recent publication is now available online at

http://www.ces.ncsu.edu/forestry/pdf/ag/ag705.pdf

It is titled Protecting and Retaining Trees: A Guide for Municipalities and Counties in North Carolina (AG-705).

Readers can learn how communities across North Carolina can protect and retain trees. The guide is based on a statewide review of municipal and county land use and tree protection regulations.
