New state forester in Virginia appointed
RICHMOND (Nov. 3) - Governor Mark R. Warner today announced the of Carl E. Garrison, III of Charlottesville to serve as State Forester, and Director of the Virginia Department of Forestry;
Carl E. Garrison, III currently serves as a regional forester with the Virginia Department of Forestry, where he supervises the largest region in the Commonwealth. The Department of Forestry is responsible for protecting 15.8 million acres of forest land, managing 16 state forests and other state lands, and providing assistance to non-industrial private forest landowners. Prior to serving as deputy director of the Department of Forestry, Garrison owned a private forestry, wildlife, and natural resource management consulting firm. He also previously served as a district forester and county forester for the Department of Forestry, as well as a member of the Regional Open-Space Preservation Advisory Board.
