Southern Forestry Extension Honored at ANREP's Biennial Conference

Southern forestry Extension professionals were honored for their excellent work at the Association of Natural Resources Extension Professionals Biennial Meeting in Biloxi, Mississippi

Biloxi, MS - Southern forestry Extension professionals, including SREF's Dr. Dave Coyle, were among those honored with 2018 ANREP Awards at the Association of Natural Resources Extension Professionals (ANREP) Biennial Meeting April 29 - May 3.

Dr. Dave Coyle of Southern Regional Extension Forestry along with his colleagues Dr. Bill Hubbard, Laura Costa, Daniel Drummond, and Brent Peterson received a Gold Award for the Southern Forest Health and Invasive Species Outreach and Education Program (FHIS) in the category of Websites, Social Media, and Online Courses. FHIS' website, southernforesthealth.net, serves as a consistent source of information for forestry professionals and citizens in the southeastern United States. Resources include fact sheets, short videos, infographics, and powerpoint slides. The program has an active presence on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram and hosts webinars in the Spring and the Fall.

Dr. Martha Monroe and Outreach Associate Annie Oxarart of the University of Florida along with their team of partners were honored with a Gold Award for their Southeast Forests and Climate Change Module in the category of Long Publication. Additionally, Dr. Monroe and Extension Associate Oxarart and their colleagues were selected as ANREP's 2018 Outstanding Team. Their module, which was developed in partnership with PINEMAP and Project Learning Tree (PLT), was designed for high school science courses and contains 14 activities that address climate change impacts on southeastern forests. The curriculum addresses carbon sequestration, life cycle assessment, forest ecology, genetics, and human responses to current and anticipated changes.
