BLACKSBURG, Va., Nov. 28, 2005 - Virginia Tech's College of Natural Resources recently named William Worrell the forestry and natural resources extension agent for the southwestern Virginia district. Worrell's new position involves educating forest landowners about sound management practices through a variety of programs including Sustainable Harvesting and Resource Professional (SHARP) logger education programs.

Prior to joining the southwestern district extension office, Worrell served the state as a forester with the Virginia Department of Forestry and the New River-Highlands Resource Conservation and Development Council.

"William has a nice portfolio of experience and has worked for a number of years with the forest industry in southwestern Virginia in several different capacities," said Jim Johnson, associate dean of outreach and professor of forestry in the College of Natural Resources at Virginia Tech.

The College of Natural Resources at Virginia Tech consistently ranks among the top five programs of its kind in the nation. Faculty members stress both the technical and human elements of natural resources and instill in students a sense of stewardship and land-use ethics. As a land-grant university, Virginia Tech serves the Commonwealth of Virginia in teaching, research, and Extension.
