WERC Workshop Software and User Manuals Available

The Department of Wood Science and Forest Products, Virginia Tech; as well as several other partners including the Department of Forest Ecology and Management, University of Wisconsin; National Hardwood Lumber Association; and the USDA Forest Service, Northern Research Station and Wood Education and Resource Center hosted an informative workshop in March 2007 for hardwood lumber manufacturers. The final outcome of this workshop was a publication that was compiled and edited by Brian Bond from Virginia Tech.

The publication provides manuals for all of the software presented and copies of the software on a CD are included in the publication.  Software programs include:  

1.        Wood Fueled Boiler Financial Feasibility
2.        GRADEYIELD  – Lumber Grande and Yield Studies for Analysis of Sawmill-Profit-Potential
3.        Cost of Sawing Timber (COST) Module, Version 1.0 for Windows
4.        PROYIELD  – Sawmill Yield Analysis
5.        DRYFEAS  – Lumber Kiln Drying Operation Financial Feasibility Analysis Spreadsheet
6.        SAWFEAS  – Sawmill Financial Feasibility

All of these software programs are focused on assisting hardwood lumber manufacturers with improving specific aspects of their businesses.  Copies can be obtained by contacting the Wood Education and Resource Center at 304-487-1510 or werc@fs.fed.us.
