The Fall Forestry and Wildlife Field Tours, hosted by Virginia Tech's College of Natural Resources, seek to inform participants about practical forest and wildlife management techniques currently being used in their areas.  The tours also share information on current cost-share programs, and serve as a great opportunity for networking with other landowners and natural resource professionals.

The Sussex County tour will spend all day at Big Woods State Forest, the first state forest in Southeast Virginia and home to nearly 2,188 acres of pine plantation. The tour will cover an array of forestry management techniques, the history of forestry in Eastern Virginia, and the needs of the endangered red-cockaded woodpecker and its dependence on the longleaf pine.

Participants are asked to meet at 8:00 am at:

Sussex County Extension Office
233-L South County Drive, Waverly, VA 23890

The tour includes lunch and refreshments, and special options are available upon request for those with particular dietary needs.
