The academy features wildland firefighting training for paid and volunteer departments, safety and fire operations courses in the wildland urban interface. The academy is customized to meet the needs of fire departments throughout the state.

“The courses offered at this year’s Mile High Academy are nationally recognized to help firefighters better protect their communities” Texas A&M Forest Service Wildland Urban Interface Specialist Phillip Truitt said. “The instructors and host fire department make this academy one worth attending to firefighters from all backgrounds.” 

The cost to attend can range from $55–$220, depending on the course and includes breakfast Friday–Sunday. Grant reimbursements are available to qualified volunteer fire departments throughthe Rural Volunteer Fire Department Assistance Program, a grant program funded by the state and administered by Texas A&M Forest Service.
