Description: Deer and Turkey Seasons are over, so what do I do with my hunting land until I plant food plots in Fall? If this question has ever crossed your mind, or you would just like to learn more about effective wildlife management techniques, this workshop is targeted for you. 'After the Hunt: Year-round Wildlife Management' will focus on wildlife and forestry management techniques and property enhancements that can be completed between the hunting seasons (April to September). This all day, in-depth workshop will be hosted at the Coffee County Extension Office and cover topics like Summer Forages and Food plots, Forestry Management Practices, Predator Control and Trapping, Roads and Culverts, Invasive Plants and Herbicides, and Camera Surveys. There will also be live demonstrations of some of the techniques discussed in class. Lunch will be provided to attendees, therefore pre-registration is required. Description: The Eastern Seed Zone Summit will bring together a diverse group of forestry and natural resource professionals to develop terminology that describes the origins of seed in the eastern US applicable to and useful for practitioners in many fields. The Summit will be the culmination of work done in 2017 by the Eastern Seed Zone Forum (ESZF), a wide assortment of people interested in the collection, production, storage and deployment of the seeds of trees and native plants led by employees of the USDA Forest Service from all three deputy areas: National forest system (NFS), Research and Development and State and Private Forestry. The focus will be on trees and plants used for reforestation or restoration plantings. Forestry and natural resource professionals from federal and state agencies, botanical gardens, universities, NGOs, private companies, and Extension agents are encouraged to attend.

Description: Herbicides are an important tool in both forest and wildlife management in the south and particularly in southern pine management. The common practice of heavy chemical site prep prescriptions in forest management may not be appropriate in stands where restoration and wildlife habitat is the objective. The webinar will address herbicide uses in longleaf restoration with a focus on minimizing the impact herbicides have on a healthy and diverse groundcover, including the fine fuels and plants that are beneficial to bobwhite quail, whitetail deer and the wild turkey.
