The 2013 NC Prescribed Fire Council Annual Meeting will be a joint meeting with the NC Longleaf Coalition on August 27, 2013 at the Hilton Wilmington Riverside located in Wilmington, NC. The keynote speaker will be Robert Abernathy of the Longleaf Alliance. There will be an optional half-day field tour to Orton Plantation and Boiling Spring Lakes on August 28, 2013.

Continuing Forestry Education (CFE) Credits: Category 1 CFE credits will be available for both the Indoor Session and Field Tour (# of credits to be awarded is pending).

Academic Posters: If interested in sharing research on longleaf pine and/or prescribed burning, please contact Bill Pickens by August 16, 2013.

Commercial Exhibitors: Vendors are invited to exhibit information at the meeting. A mail-in registration form and fee information is available here. To register as a vendor online and pay by credit card, click here for an online registration form. Space is limited and the deadline to register as an exhibitor is August 6, 2013.

Raffle and Silent Auction: The 2013 annual meeting is sure to be a hit and part of the fun includes raffles and a silent auction to benefit the NC Prescribed Fire Council. The 50/50 raffle means someone goes home with half of the raffle funds in CASH! Please plan to bring items to donate. Items may include art, tools, books, plants, outdoor gear, specialty foods, and more. This year we also want to offer expeditions and we are seeking expedition leaders and trips! Could you provide a field experience such as a hunting, fishing, birdwatching, nature photography, or other unique outdoor experiences? If you are willing to offer up items or your services to a worthy cause, please contact Jim Gray at 910-891-7376. All proceeds go to NCPFC.

Hotel Information: The Indoor Session will be held at the Hilton Wilmington Riverside located at 301 North Water Street in Wilmington, NC 28401. Rooms are available at state government rate ($63.90 plus tax) reserved under Prescribed Fire Council Meeting. To make a reservation online use the code: PFC. The block of rooms at the state rate will only be held until July 26, 2013 so make your reservation early! Reservations can be made by calling (910) 763-5900 and ask for reservations. Hotel Parking: There is a parking fee of $9.00 per day (or $12 for valet) to park at the hotel.

Meals: Registration includes an Awards Luncheon at noon during the August 27th indoor session.

Social: An evening social with refreshments and appetizers will be held on August 27 at an establishment within walking distance to the hotel.

Cape Fear Riverboat Tour: Enjoy a two-hour sunset cruise on the Cape Fear River. Space on the boat is limited to 45, and there is a $30 charge for the boat tour, which includes light snacks and a cash bar. Sponsors: Anyone wishing to make a financial contribution to the social is encouraged to do so by mailing a check to the NC Prescribed Fire Council; P.O. Box 37434; Raleigh, NC 27627 ($100 minimum please). Sponsors will be acknowledged at the meeting.

Field Trip Information:  A field trip to see and learn about longleaf pine management on Orton Plantation and other sites in Brunswick County will occur on Wednesday, August 28.  Participants are asked to bring 4-wheel drive vehicles that can carry 5 or more for car-pooling. Water will be provided. Location of departure will be the Hilton Wilmington Riverside parking lot. The tour will leave at 8:30 am and return by 12:00 Noon.  Participation may be limited. Depending on the response, there may be a morning and an afternoon trip. Those who sign up will be contacted in advance with more details.

Safety Items/Field Equipment:  Please dress appropriate for field conditions and weather on the August 28 field tour. The field trip will occur rain or shine.

Cancellation: Contact Susan (susan_miller@fws.gov) if you are not able to attend. All, but $5 of your registration can be returned up to August 20. NO refunds after August 20, 2013.
