University of Kentucky Woodlands E-News
As budgets continue to erode it is critical to find effective and meaningful ways to distribute the forestry educational information we have to share and email marketing and electronic newsletters are proving to be an important tool in our toolbox. Over the past year, UK Forestry Extension has researched, planned, and developed an electronic newsletter titled Kentucky Woodlands E-News. This electronic newsletter is sent bimonthly to Kentucky woodland owners, the wood industry, extension personnel and to others with an interest in forestry and wildlife. Kentucky Woodlands E-News serves an important role in UK Forestry Extension’s social media outreach efforts by delivering content that is easily digestible by consumers of electronic media while still containing links to additional information or resources for those with a desire to dig dipper—this approach is helping to drive traffic to and between our web pages, Facebook site, and YouTube channel.
EFETAC Forest ThreatNet
The mission of the Eastern Forest Environmental Threat Assessment Center (EFETAC) is to generate knowledge and tools needed to anticipate and respond to environmental threats. The most serious threats to forests, and the benefits they provide, inevitably involve complex factors interacting at multiple scales. EFETAC's challenge is to maintain a holistic and integrated research program to tackle these complex issues. EFETAC is further charged to deliver knowledge to forest landowners, managers, and scientists in a timely, useful, and user-friendly manner.
EFETAC publishes the Forest ThreatNet Newsletter several time a year that provides the latest information concerning ongoing research, projects and partnerships.
PINEMAP
PINEMAP, Pine Integrated Network: Education, Mitigation, and Adaptation project, focuses on the 20 million acres of planted pine forests managed by private landowners in the Atlantic and Gulf coastal states from Virginia to Texas, plus Arkansas and Oklahoma. These forests provide critical economic and ecological services to U.S. citizens. Southeastern forests contain 1/3 of the contiguous U.S. forest carbon and form the backbone of an industry that supplies 16% of global industrial wood, 5.5% of the jobs, and 7.5% of the industrial economic activity of the region.
PINEMAP integrates research, extension, and education to enable southern pine landowners to manage forests to increase carbon sequestration; increase efficiency of nitrogen and other fertilizer inputs; and adapt forest managment approaches to increase forest resilience and sustainability under variable climates.
Southern Fire Exchange
The Southern Fire Exchange (SFE) is a regional program for fire science delivery across the Southeast. As one of the Knowledge Exchange Consortia funded by the Joint Fire Science Program, the SFE’s mission is "to increase the availability and application of fire science information for natural resource management and to serve as a conduit for fire managers to share new research needs with the research community."
The SFE publishes a bimonthly newsletter, Fire Lines, to summarize recent fire-related publications, projects, activities, and news for the southern fire community.
Forest & Wood Certification E-News
This E-News bulletin is published by the Center for Wood & Forest Certification.
The Center for Forest and Wood Certification builds regional forest and wood certification capacity through the delivery of unbiased information; technical assistance; and the development of programs for landowners, loggers, and forest products industries to participate in certification in a sustainable and affordable manner.
