The National Cohesive Wildland Fire Management Strategy is an "all-hands, all-lands" collaborative effort between federal, state, and local interests to address the increasing risks associated with wildland fire to life, property and the local environment.
In 2012, the Southeastern Regional Strategic Committee contracted with the office of the Southern Regional Extension Forester (SREF) to assist in promoting the Strategy through applied research, professional development, outreach and educational resources, and technology. Working with the Southeastern Strategy Coordinator, SREF:
- Identified key Strategy stakeholder groups through a Social Network Analysis,
- Developed a website to track southeastern wildland fire activity,
- Documented activities through the development of 50+ southeastern "success stories",
- Promoted SE Strategy news, events, resources, history, professional development opportunities, community resources, and success stories through development of www.southernwildfire.net
- Created and promoted outreach materials: SE Strategy Value cards and Guide to SE Fire Adapted Communities
- Marketed resources through social media, regional newsletters, and conference presentations.
