Preparing for Wildfires with Firescaping

Master Gardener Training: Preparing for Wildfires with Firescaping

The Master Gardener Training: Preparing for Wildfires with Firescaping advanced training prepares southeastern Extension Master Gardeners (and other community members) to help prepare for wildfire using specific fire-resistant landscaping recommendations. The training includes an online course for Extension Agents (and other educators) to teach the course and advanced training course materials for Master Gardeners. Through this course, both Extension educators and Master Gardeners will learn about wildfire history and behavior, the Wildland Urban Interface (WUI) and land use patterns, assessing wildfire risk, creating defensible space, and the principles of fire-resistant landscaping, or “firescaping.” Also, Master Gardeners will have access to fire-resistant plant lists, local contacts, and recommended volunteer activities.

Please note: This project is currently in the development phase, with course materials accessible to Extension educators December 2018. Please stay tuned for more information. If you have any questions, please contact: Holly Campbell, Project Manager and Extension Associate, hcampbell@sref.info or 706-559-4312.
