Managing wildlife is commonly ranked as a primary objective among landowners. This session will introduce participants to basic wildlife management principles and concepts and provide information on habitat requirements of various wildlife that occur across the region.
Presenters:
Dr. Craig A. Harper is a Professor of Wildlife Management and the Extension Wildlife Specialist in the Department of Forestry, Wildlife, and Fisheries at the University of Tennessee. Dr. Harper maintains an active extension and research program that specializes in upland habitat management, including effects of prescribed fire, silviculture, and herbicide applications on habitat for various wildlife species.
Dr. Bronson Strickland is the St. John Family Professor of Wildlife Management and the Extension Wildlife Specialist in the Department of Wildlife, Fisheries & Aquaculture at Mississippi State University. Dr. Strickland’s research and extension program focuses on white-tailed deer population management and deer-habitat relationships.
Dr. Mark McConnell is Assistant Professor of Upland Birds and Prairie Habitat Conservation in the Department of Wildlife, Fisheries & Aquaculture at Mississippi State University. His research program focuses on the ecology and management of southeastern gamebirds in working landscapes.
