August 10, 2005 - The Forest Landowners Association welcomes Sarah Sturm as its new Managing Editor. Sarah has been residing in Tucker, Georgia for the past five years. She was born in Iowa City, Iowa on January 18, 1974, and also lived in South Bend, Indiana before her family settled in Atlanta, Georgia in 1980.
Sarah Ashton, a recent graduate of Virginia Tech (Master's of Science degree in Forest Science) has accepted a position with the Southern Forest Biomass Training Initiative.
The 2006 Henry Hardtner Award recipient is well-known and respected for providing excellent forest landowner technical assistance and forest management education over the last 28 years.
Richard L. Porterfield, a former forestry professor who for 21 years held executive positions with Champion International paper company, has been chosen dean of the University of Georgia's Warnell School of Forest Resources.

New Research Associate to Focus on Biomass Issues in the South
BLACKSBUG, Va., Feb. 17, 2006 -- Virginia Tech's College of Natural Resources and the Virginia Cooperative Extension recently appointed Matt Yancey of Elkton, Va., to the position of forestry and natural resources extension agent for the Northwest District.
The National Forestry Pageant is open to all states. In addition, the Georgia Forestry Pageant is open to Georgia residents only. The pageant has been in existance for 67 years. The queens promote the Forestry Commission, The Forestry Association, and the Forestry Industry. Our queens participate in events such as Georgia AG Day at the Capitol, reading of the National Arbor Day Proclammation for the Governor, and travel many many miles promoting the Forestry through public appearances.
