(KNOXVILLE , Tenn. ) -- Dr. Keith Belli is the new professor and head of the Department of Forestry, Wildlife, and Fisheries at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. He leads one of the largest units in the university's College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources, one of four units in the statewide UT Institute of Agriculture.

GAINESVILLE, Fla. --- Jason Smith has been named an assistant professor of forest pathology with the University of Florida's School of Forest Resources and Conservation. His appointment became effective Sept. 29.

Jim Ehlers, current Director for Cooperative Forestry for the Southern Region, will assume this new post on February 9. The position will be housed within the Forest Health Protection Unit in the Regional Office.

At the Society of American Foresters national meeting this week in Portland, Oregon, the University of Florida School of Forest Resources and Conservation struck gold. Shibu Jose won the National Young Leader award presented to the professional, practitioner or academician under age 40 who has made the most impact. In presenting the award to Shibu in front of the 2,000 attendees, the presenter stressed the quality of Shibu's academic programs, his current service as editor or associate editor of 5 top journals and his service to the profession -- most recently as national chair of the SAF Diversity Council.

Georgia is positioned to lead the nation's alternative energy movement with the naming of its first Forest Energy and Development Director. Nathan McClure has been appointed to the newly created position by Georgia Forestry Commission Director, Ken Stewart.
