This is the final call for abstracts for our conference "Emerging Issues Along Urban/Rural Interfaces: Linking Land-Use Science and Society", to be held April 9-12, 2007 at the Sheraton Atlanta. The conference announcement is below and the deadline for submission of abstracts is January 31, 2007. We have a dwindling pool of money made available by NSF to provide travel grants for students.

The USDA Forest Service, Forest Inventory and Analysis (FIA) program is pleased to announce the 2008 FIA Symposium, " Climate Change, Fire, and Other Hot Topics" October 21 - 23, 2008 in Park City, UT. The symposium will emphasize innovative uses of FIA data that shed new light on contemporary issues, such as carbon, climate change, fire, bio-energy/biomass, forest health, and other contemporary issues. Plenary and breakout sessions from a variety of disciplines will be presented.

ALBANY, Ga., June 16— F&W Forestry Services, Inc., one of the South’s oldest and largest forestry management and consulting firms, today announced a major geographic expansion of its U.S. operations and the launch of its first foreign base in South America. Both moves are a direct result of F&W’s strategic partnership with RMK Timberland Group, a business unit of Birmingham, Ala.-based Regions Bank.

The Forest History Society and the Eastern Region (Region 9) of the USDA Forest Service wish to announce the online availablity of more than 6,000 Forest Service photographs – the largest number of searchable historic Forest Service images on the Web. GENEVA, Ill. – A destructive, non-native pest that feasts on ash trees has been detected in northern Illinois. The Illinois Department of Agriculture announced today that a beetle found in the yard of a Kane County home east of Lily Lake is an emerald ash borer (EAB).
